The phlebotomist drew my blood.
Instead of dark arterial crimson,
out flowed hues I'd dyed my hair:
cobalt, violet, fuschia, bi colors
shimmering like a switch-hitting
hummingbird's throat, widening
from vein to river deep enough
to drown an army of lovers.
My first full-length poetry book, The Horizontal Poet (Zeitgeist Press, 2011), won a 2012 Lambda Literary Award for Bisexual Nonfiction. My story Mixing Tracks (Gertrude Press, 2009) won the Gertrude Press fiction chapbook award for LGBT writing. My chapbook The Underwater Hospital (Zeitgeist Press, 2006) was voted First Place in the lesbian and bisexual poetry division of the Rainbow Awards. My creative writing has appeared in Scholastic Magazine, Yale Medicine, Bellevue Literary Review, Red Rock Review, The Pedestal Magazine, and elsewhere. My work has been nominated three times for a Pushcart Prize. My short story collection Ghosts and Oceans is looking for a publisher.
